Bert is an oddity on our farm, as he has no pedigree or registration papers. Although he is a purebred quarter horse with some thoroughbred influence his previous owners never registered him. At first we didn't really consider him due to the emphasis that we put on knowing a horse's lineage and performance record, but the way that Bert wiggled into our hearts while we were trying him left no doubt as to his heritage. Bert is Laura's personal horse and is currently in training for mounted shooting and coming along nicely. Before purchasing him the summer of '08 Bert had only been trail ridden so has had to obtain a whole lot of education since coming to our farm. He is proving to be a quick study, however, and just a great guy over all. We have already had him moving cattle, as pack horse on an 18 mile pack trip and packing greenies around that just want to ride a little. =-) He hobble broke especially easy and generally just wants to get along with everyone. He stands 15.2 hands high and rides very light and seems to be fairly athletic thus far. He will pack anyone and works great as a lesson horse. Bert is teaching us all to judge each horse by its own merits rather than putting too much emphasis on pedigree.
